Family of Liars by E. Lockhart, Allen & Unwin, $27.99

I knew this would be good as I had read We Were Liars, which is one of those books that stays with you long after you read the last page. Family of Liars is set on the same family’s private island and it’s the story of four sisters during the summer after one of them drowns. It’s a tale of a family trying to live their lives without one of their members, the struggles, the things that don’t get said and the things that do. It is told through the eyes of Carrie, the eldest of the four girls. Carrie is relating the story of the year the boys came to stay on the island. She’s telling the story to her dead son Johnny. A story of a year full of sadness, fun, secrets, and lies. Excellent read. — Linda Hall
