Toi Te Ora is urging Bay of Plenty residents to take steps to avoid food poisoning when barbecuing this summer. Toi Te Ora Medical Officer of Health Dr Phil Shoemack advised people to clean their barbecue and utensils before preparing food, be aware of crosscontamination of raw food, refrigerate perishable foods until needed, and cook meat until the juices run clear. See the Ministry of Primary Industries website.
